Out In Nature, In Yardley
Lake Afton
Our beautiful Lake Afton began as a man-made millpond and was used to provide power to the nearby gristmill using water wheel energy. The lake is rumored to be named after a line from the poem “Afton Waters,” written by Robert Burns.
“flow gently Sweet Afton, I’ll sing thee a song.”
Friends of Lake Afton is a local non-profit organization with the mission is to protect and restore Lake Afton and the surrounding public areas for all to enjoy.
Delaware Canal Towpath
Yardley and our neighboring towns along the Delaware Canal get to enjoy the nearly 60-mile long towpath that attracts runners, cyclists, and families in all kinds of weather.
Friends of the Delaware Canal is a non-profit organization working to restore and preserve the Delaware Canal and the land surrounding its nearly 60 miles in length, from Easton to Bristol.
Delaware River
Yardley borders the Delaware River, which General George Washington famously crossed on that historic winter night, Christmas of 1776. Nowadays, the River provides endless entertainment, including fishing, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, and tubing, and if that’s too much activity for you, you can always just sit back and relax on any of the numerous riverside terraces that offer unbeatable views.
