SUMMARY:“The Evolution of Lake Afton” and Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Together the Old Library and Lake Afton are the heart of Yardley\, but their histories are very different. Unlike the Old Library’s straightforward past\, the Lake’s varied industrial history belies the serenity that we enjoy today.  \nCome find out how Lake Afton evolved from a water source for the grist mill to a siltation pond for the Cold Spring Bleachery to a body of water in need of friends to keep it healthy.  \nThe Yardley Historical Association Annual Meeting will follow. It will include a short report on 2025 accomplishments\, and the election of Board members and officers.  \nCome enjoy the company of your fellow members and neighbors\, take part in the workings of your organization\, and learn more about our neighbor\, Lake Afton. \nPhoto credit: Josh Friedman Photography

SUMMARY:Mt. Concordia Stories of Yardley’s Hill
DESCRIPTION:Last year we planned a Mt. Concordia walking tour\, but soon learned that walking up a steep hill isn’t too popular\, so now we’ll share the stories at a program at the Old Library.  \nYardley’s low-lying stretch along the Delaware River gets a lot of attention\, but the high ground west of South Main Street not so much. What is commonly known today as “College Avenue Hill” has many a story. Quarrying was done here\,  industry flourished\, “Yardley Heights” and “Mt. Concordia” were among its names\, it is the site of the town’s school\,  its growth was spurred by the advent of US Steel and the Baby Boom\, and the sledding tales are daring do.  \nFind out about delusions of grandeur and some different aspects of town.
